This year, Israel turns 70! That’s 70 years of independence. Seventy years of vitality, strength, warmth and innovation. A moment like this deserves an all-out celebration. So on 5/6, join us for the ultimate Israel birthday party: the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s 5-6-70 Israel!
“In a year filled with celebrating Israel, 5-6-70 Israel! is our single largest celebration,” says Addie Lewis Klein, Director of Community Engagement. “No exaggeration — there’s absolutely something for everyone,” with entertainment like short Israeli films, crafts, Israeli dancing, and local musicians and choirs that will fill the Event Center at Valley Forge Casino Resort on May 6th from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. And you won’t want to miss the hit Israeli cover band Capaim or the Quaker City String Band, whose Fiddler on the Roof performance earned second place at this year’s Mummers Parade.
5-6-70 Israel! will be family-friendly fun at its best. With ample free parking and a gigantic children’s area packed with theater, folksong sing-alongs, crafts, balloon artists, face painters and Israeli-made games and toys, kids of all ages will find delight around every corner. Teens are sure to enjoy the special Israeli environmental exhibit and an afternoon competing on the Gaga courts. The food demo stage will feature tastings of Israeli wines, olive oils, hummus and salatim (salads). And of course, it wouldn’t be a party without an array of kosher, Israeli and vegetarian food available from multiple Greater Philadelphia vendors. “This is our one day to celebrate our Jewish communities’ Israel connection,” says Addie. “Come fill your eyes, ears and belly with Israel!”
5-6-70 Israel! is free and open to our communities. To avoid the lines, click here to register now.
P.S. The fun on May 6th won’t stop there! At 7:00 p.m., Temple Beth Hillel-Beth El will host singer-songwriter David Broza, who will treat us to a special Israel70 birthday performance. Tickets can be purchased here.
