What's at Stake? Understanding Israel's Local Elections

Join the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Jewish Community Relations Council in collaboration with the Abraham Initiatives to discuss Israel's upcoming local elections. In the wake of political turbulence and still reeling from the violence of May 2021, these elections come at a turning point for shared societies in mixed cities. Learn from experts what citizens are voting on, what issues are most crucial, and how the Abraham Initiatives is elevating the voices of both Jews and Palestinians seeking peaceful coexistence. Cemetery Cleanup
Sunday, October 15 | 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Har Nebo Cemetery; 6061 Oxford Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19149

Honor those at rest by cleaning up Har Nebo, a local and historic Jewish cemetery. Volunteer tasks include raking, picking up trash and clipping overgrown vines. The cleanup will end with a memorial service to honor all of those buried. To register, click here.

Gems on the Go Movie & Brunch

Congregation Tifereth Israel

Watch The Bucket List, a comedy-drama starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, a film that encourages discussion on moving out of our comfort zones, making future plans and goals, and what constitutes a life well-lived. Participants are invited to schmooze, enjoy bagels, watch the film and take part in a thoughtful discussion about the movie led by filmmaker and podcaster Luke Poling. Intro into Judaism Course

Join a community learning program presented by the clergy of Bucks County featuring the American Jewish University’s Miller Intro to Judaism Course. This 18 week virtual course is open to anyone that wants to learn more about Judaism, its holidays, traditions, history and more. The cost is $180 per person or $250 per couple. Black Fiddlers in the Orbit of Thomas Jefferson

Join Kehilat HaNahar (Little Shul by the River) for a story for all Americans to learn about, discuss and be enlightened by. Music historian, conductor and former KHN member Lewis R. Baratz will shed light on the music and the ethical contradictions of a key founding father of the United States. Chaim Grade
Sunday, October 22 | 11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Join Kehilat HaNahar (Little Shul by the River) for a discussion on the Lithuanian Yiddish writer Chaim Grade, who wrote poetry, novels, and memoirs from the time of World War I. Grade recreated life in Eastern Europe equal to the works of Isaac Bashevis Singer and Sholom Aleichem, with his two most acclaimed works being The Agunah and The Yeshiva.
