Calling all foodies! The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia is hosting A Taste of Israel Festival on Sunday, May 7 at the Saligman Campus in Wynnewood to honor Israel’s 75th birthday. Can’t wait to try delicious Israeli cuisine? Check out the list below for five Israeli dishes that will send your taste buds soaring – all of which you can find at the Taste of Israel Festival.

 

1. Arayes

A classic Middle Eastern treat made from pita, stuffed with meat and grilled to crispy perfection.

 

2. Falafel

This tried and true delight is made from deep-fried chickpeas or fava beans served plain or in a pita.

 

3. Bourekas

A popular baked pastry stuffed with a variety of fillings such as ground beef, cheese or vegetables.

 

4. Moroccan Cigars

A fried dish originating from Morocco, which can be made sweet or savory with a variety of meats, fillings and spices. 

 

5. Shawarma

A traditional street staple of thinly sliced meat, hummus and Israeli salad, rolled into flatbread or pita.
