Five Ways to Celebrate Purim in Greater Philadelphia

Bright colored costumes swarming the streets, fresh hamentashen stuffed with every type of jam and filling, and masks bejeweled with glitter, gems, and feathers – yes, Purim is on its way!

 

Beginning the evening of Monday, March 6 through Tuesday, March 7, the holiday of Purim commemorates the Book of Esther and the miracle of Jewish survival.

 

In celebration of the holiday, the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia is hosting opportunities for community members to get into their costumes and into the Purim spirit. 

 

So, get your graggers ready for these upcoming events:

 

Purim Comes Alive
Tuesday, February 28 | 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Kleinlife

Get your costumes ready and bring the whole family to join Northeast Kehillah for pre-Purim fun! Enjoy a kid-friendly evening, featuring interactive storytime with jkidphilly and crafts and activities with Camp Galil. Light kosher dinner provided. To register, click here.

 

Old York Road Kehillah Purim Carnival
Sunday, March 5
11:30 p.m. – 12:30 p.m | Families with Preschool Children
12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. | General Admission
Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel

Join Old York Road Jewish Community for a Purim Carnival the entire family will love! Enjoy hamantaschen, prizes, inflatable obstacle courses, slides and more. $10 per family with advance registration or $20 per family at the door. To register, click here.

 

Purim Block Party
Tuesday, March 7 | 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Fitler Square, 23rd and Pine
 
Join Center City Kehillah, Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel and other community partners for a Purim carnival featuring DJ Aluminum, Dr. Dani Dancepants, Drag Queen Storytime, face painting and more! Purim Fest ‘23
Sunday, March 5 | 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Join Lower Merion Kehillah and community partners for Purim games, prizes, crafts and more! $36 per family, light refreshments included. To register, click here.

 

Monte Carlo Purim Masquerade
Monday, March 6 | 7:00 p.m.
World Cafe Live

Join the Jewish Federation’s Nextgen group in partnership with Chevra and other young Jewish professional organizations for the eighth annual purim masquerade. Come in costume, enjoy live music and partake in casino-themed games with tons of fun prizes. $10 advance registration, $20 at the door. To register, click here.
