The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia is pleased to welcome Jonathan Schmalzbach as our new Community Engagement Specialist for the Old York Road Kehillah.

“I am extremely honored and excited to begin my journey here at Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia,” said Kokatay. “I was moved at the prospect of being part of an organization that genuinely cares about the Jewish community. From the macro view of raising millions of dollars each year for vital services and programs locally and worldwide, to the micro view of touching the individual lives of those in need.”

As the Community Engagement Specialist for Old York Road Kehillah, Schmalzbach will help connect community members within the neighborhood with each other and with Jewish programs and resources.

“The Old York Road Kehillah is a place of great spirituality, learning, history, culture and activism,” said Schmalzbach, who lives in Elkins Park. “I'm looking forward to connecting with the remarkable community members and organizations -- there are so many events and exciting things happening along the corridor.”

Prior to joining the Jewish Federation, Schmalzbach worked as the vice president of new business development at Contentra Technologies and as the director of marketing and director of business development for CSA Education in Chicago. Along with his extensive experience, Schmalzbach holds a Literature and History degree from the University of California. Schmalzbach also writes crossword puzzles for the New York Times.

Since joining, Schmalzbach has begun connecting with individuals and organizations in Old York Road and started planning an exciting Purim program.
