In June, the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia welcomed Julie Sankin as the new Mitzvah Food Program Care Manager.

Prior to joining the Jewish Federation, Sankin, who is a licensed social worker, worked as a Ukrainian Support Social Worker for Jewish Family and Children’s Services, where she assisted newly arrived immigrants with job applications, Medicaid and other services.

“I am excited to continue to help all those that were impacted by the war in Ukraine, as well as many others, at the Mitzvah Food Program,” Sankin expressed. “As a social worker, I enjoy helping others, and am excited to work with the Jewish Federation and expand their mission of combating food insecurity.”

Previously, Sankin also worked for Woods Service for eight years as a Social Worker and then as a Care Coordinator. In that role, she was responsible for preparing her clients’ treatment plans and ensuring that they adhered to all company standards.

With September being Hunger Awareness Month, Sankin says her focus is on being mindful of the populations that the Mitzvah Food Program serves and being able to provide culturally significant foods for them.

“At our Old York pantry, we have a lot of individuals from Haiti,” Sankin noted. “At one of the distribution weeks, we offered plantains, mangos, sweet potatoes and catfish. The clients were so happy to see these items.”
