The end of the year is a time of reflection, resolve and unwavering commitment to our shared values and mission.
We all hoped that peace would be achieved by now, families would be reunited, and life in Israel would begin its long journey of rebuilding and recovery. Instead, we find ourselves ending the year amid an ongoing war — a situation that is far from where we had envisioned just months ago. The conflict continues to weigh heavily on our hearts and minds.
In the past two weeks, we’ve seen both progress and heartbreak. Negotiations around the potential release of hostages have intensified, and while there have been moments of optimism, many of those held captive remain in uncertain conditions. Just this past week, reports emerged that several young children and elderly individuals could be part of an early release, but the timing and likelihood of this deal remain fluid. Every moment of their separation from loved ones is a moment too long. We continue to pray for these innocent civilians and call out for their safe return.
At the same time, the security situation on the ground has remained volatile. Recent escalations in Gaza and the northern border have required increased aid and emergency response. Reports of targeted attacks in key areas have only highlighted the urgent need for support. Our thoughts remain with those affected by these events, and we reaffirm our commitment to their safety and security.
Amid all of the uncertainty, one thing remains constant: our unwavering commitment to stand with the people of Israel. Our resolve has never faltered, and neither has our support. Through your generosity and our collective efforts, we’ve provided critical aid on the ground to where it’s needed most. From emergency supplies and trauma support to assistance for displaced families, the impact is profound.
Locally, the Jewish Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) continues to meet with school board members across Greater Philadelphia to discuss increasing education about antisemitism within the district. Additionally, JCRC has engaged with administrators at Swarthmore College, Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania to address campus-related concerns and enforce new policies.
We’re asking you to join us in holding college and university campuses accountable when it comes to keeping Jewish students on campuses across the country safe.
The Antisemitism Awareness Act (AAA) is within reach — and we need your help to send a strong message to ensure it passes before the 118th Congress ends. This critical bipartisan legislation provides the tools to fight antisemitism by codifying the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism for the Department of Education, empowering the government to recognize and respond to antisemitic incidents. The AAA ensures accountability and sends a clear message that antisemitism has no place in America.

While the path ahead remains unpredictable, our mission is clear: to fight antisemitism at home and support recovery abroad. These two goals are not short-term endeavors — it’s a marathon, not a sprint. The needs are growing, and so is our determination to meet them. As we plan for the year ahead, we’re focused on:
- Advocating for Hostage Release: Amplifying the call for the immediate and safe return of hostages still being held. This remains one of our top priorities to ensure international attention stays focused on their plight.
- Fighting Antisemitism at Home: Confronting antisemitism in our schools and communities. We’re increasing educational initiatives, fostering interfaith partnerships, and supporting programs that promote tolerance, understanding, and respect for Jewish identity and culture.
- Building Resilience: Strengthening communities to withstand the long-term impacts of war and hate. This includes supporting educational programs that foster empathy, tolerance and peacebuilding among the next generation, ensuring they are equipped to combat antisemitism and bigotry in all its forms.
This moment requires all of us to lean in. Whether through advocacy, philanthropy or raising awareness, each action strengthens the bonds between our community here and our brothers and sisters in Israel. As we reflect on the year’s end, we’re reminded of the power of community and the profound difference we can make together.
And despite the hardships, hope remains. As we have done for generations, we will stand together in our commitment to creating a safer, more vibrant future for all. Your ongoing support is essential.
