Since 1901, the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia has been there for the community through times of hardship as well as celebration. With the tribulations of the past year, the Jewish Federation remains committed to its mission of upholding the Jewish value of repairing the world, tikkun olam, each and every day.

Serving the Community Year Round

The Jewish Federation supports local programs to ensure food security, safe housing, financial independence and appropriate support for aging with dignity.

Of Jewish Households in Greater Philadelphia:

  • 23,149 are at risk of food insecurity
  • 24% have an income of $50,000 or less
  • 15% receive some kind of public assistance

*According to the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s 2019 Community Portrait Population Study

The Jewish Federation’s Local Impact Last Year:

  • $1,253,959 to help older adults age with dignity
  • $610,000 to help provide financial stability for low-income individuals
  • $387,750 to support the communal social service system

Being There for People Like Betty

When 77-year-old Betty’s health insurance did not cover the cost of her hearing aids, she turned to the Female Hebrew Benevolent Society of Philadelphia, supported by the Jewish Federation. In order to cover the cost of the essential medical devices, the Female Hebrew Benevolent Society joined forces with Jewish Family and Children’s Service and Friends of Federation Housing, an organization also supported by the Jewish Federation, to split the cost.
