A new calendar year marks the symbolic opportunity for reflection, recommitment and change. As 2023 begins, the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia asked community members to share their resolutions on how they can make a difference, both locally and overseas. From creating inclusive Jewish spaces to prioritizing safety, here are some of their intentions for the new year.

"Our New Year's resolution is to build and maintain a strong and inclusive Jewish community. We believe that all individuals and families should feel a place of belonging and feel welcomed in every Jewish setting."

- Hilary Levine & Tyler McKinley, Honeymoon Israel participants

"The Jewish New Year falls on the first day of the Hebrew month of Tishri, which coincides with the month of September. I hope to build a warm and welcoming environment in which to share the richness and joy of learning Torah and to engage the community in prayer. I want to continue to foster the valuable trait of unity among Jews here in Philadelphia."

- Rabbi Yosef Zarnighian, Congregation Mikveh Israel

"This year, I want to use my voice as a platform. I hope we can all be responsible for one another by directly and strongly countering all forms of oppression, including religious and racial bigotry."

- Beth Reisboard, Women’s Philanthropy board member

"My resolution for the new year is to continue to ensure that marginalized communities within Israel have access to opportunities and resources to break socioeconomic barriers. I will work to expand our pluralistic community and nurture a comforting environment where every Jew can express themselves."

- Tali Lidar, Jewish Federation’s Director of Israel and Global Operations

"I am reigniting my commitment to the community, infusing values into my work that enrich Jewish life for all who want to participate in it. I will continue to grow and expand our organization as a trusted philanthropic entity, where community members can see the true impact of their giving."

- Michael Balaban, Jewish Federation’s President and CEO
