For six decades, Greater Philadelphia has shown up each year to say Never Again at the Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony to observe Yom HaShoah. On Sunday, May 5 over 150 people gathered to honor the 60th annual Philadelphia Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony at Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel. With so much unrest in the world, bringing the Jewish and interfaith communities together for this annual memorial was more important than ever. 

Led by the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia’s Jewish Community Relations Council, the Philadelphia Holocaust Remembrance Foundation, the Association of Jewish Holocaust Survivors of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, the Holocaust Awareness Museum, and 3GPhilly, this program included first-hand stories from Holocaust survivors, candle lighting, music and prayers. 

Music was provided by Nashirah, the Jewish Chorale of Greater Philadelphia and Ken Ulansey.

Let us Never Forget about the six million Jews who perished in the Shoah as we continue to honor the survivors living in our communities by telling their stories of survival.

Over 150 attendees included Holocaust survivors, interfaith leaders and elected officials.

Interfaith leaders, Holocaust survivors and their loved ones lit six memorial candles in honor of six million who perished in the Holocaust.

Holocaust survivor Michael Fryd shared his story of resistance.

Flag presentation led by the Fegelson-Young-Feinberg Jewish War Veterans Post 697 of Bucks County and the Jewish Committee on Scouting, Cradle of Liberty Council.

Memorial prayer recited by Cantor Joseph Lebovic from Congregation Beth Tikvah with musical accompaniment provided by Philip Kates, Violinist for the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Remarks given by Michael Markman, Board Chair of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania State Senator Sharif Street spoke about the importance of Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Pastor Carl Day of Culture Changing Christians shared the importance of allyship between different communities.
