The Main Event: Get Up Close & Personal With a NYT Op-Ed Writer

Written by Emma Needleman | Oct 30, 2019 7:02:19 PM

Each year, the Main Event is where the Greater Philadelphia Jewish community gathers to celebrate our unity and pride. Some years, it’s been a collective opportunity to honor someone who has positively impacted our communities. In other years, we’ve come together to share our love of Israel. This year, against a rising tide of worldwide anti-Semitism, and with our need for solidarity more urgent than ever, the Main Event 2019 will be a celebration of our communal strength.

Our featured speaker, Bari Weiss, is a writer and editor for The New York Times opinion section who has been recognized as a leading journalist and commentator. After the Tree of Life killings in her hometown of Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh, she was stirred to action. The result is her newly-released book How To Fight Anti-Semitism, in which she makes a powerful case for renewing both Jewish and American values. Her Main Event keynote will be a speech not to be missed!

Come together on November 14th at the Kimmel Center and find security in the strength of our communal bonds. Proceeds from the Main Event will support the Jewish Community Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and our communities’ security needs, so that we can continue our sacred mission of serving vulnerable populations, inspiring community engagement and supporting Jewish life and learning.
