Chew Recreation Center's ‘Renew & Protect’

In honor of MLK Day of Service, volunteer with the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and Global Citizen to refresh the Chew Recreation Center center by removing weeds and debris, paint exterior/interior walls, and protect the greens by covering soil in hopes of producing vibrant reflections of hope and inspiration to the community in Spring 2023. For MLK Day of Service, JCRC in partnership with Global Citizen will host a clean-up beneath and around the recently reopened bridges that connect Forbidden Drive to the paved bike path. By removing this litter, you will not only make this area of the park more beautiful, but you will also keep the watershed healthier for all! Give back to the park, its users, the creek, and the plants and animals that rely on it to live.

MLK – Tu B’Shevat Day of Service for the Trees

Honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Jewish value of caring for the Earth. The Buxmont Kehillah and jkidphilly invite you to a day of fun exploration and restoration preparation of tornado-damaged forests. Dress for the weather — the program will start outside with scavenger hunts and digging! Warming treats, games, and indoor stories will follow. Exact location and parking details after registration. Recommended for ages 3–8 (siblings always welcome!).

Jewish Wisdom for Life’s Great Questions: A Learning Circle
Thursdays, 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. | January – March
Kaiserman JCC

Gather for a new kind of conversation – one where life’s toughest questions are answered. Over the course of ten sessions, the cohort will investigate the big issues of today with local clergy. Dependent on numbers, there will also be a professionally supervised children’s program for kids grades 2-7 that will feature games, activities and dinner. Open to all, this course is designed for young professionals and anyone curious about Judaism.

German Jewish Heritage Series

JCRC is pleased to co-sponsor the German Society of Pennsylvania's German Heritage Series, a program that highlights the profound impact that German-speaking Jews and their descendants have on modern German and world culture and Jewish life. The program includes an art exhibit and multiple workshops and speaking events:
 
  • Exhibit / Opening Reception: "1700 Years of Jewish Life in German-Speaking Lands," from noted German-Jewish archive, the Leo Baeck Institute, which showcases the journey of Jews in Germany.
  • Beer is the Wine of Your Land: German/Jewish Brewing Workshop and Talk at Rodeph Shalom
  • German/Jewish Shabbat Service and Dinner at Rodeph Shalom
  • Lecture by Nora Krug, author of "Heimat: ein deutsches Familienalbum"/

‘The Mountaintop’ by Katori Hall
