Our local Holocaust survivors remember exactly what it was like living through some of history’s darkest days — and what it was like to be liberated from their concentration camps and ghettos.

Each of these survivors has taken on a personal responsibility to tell their stories, so that the world can Never Forget. Each of us has the responsibility to keep those stories alive.

On the upcoming 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, we are reminded anew of our responsibility to speak up and speak out. Join us on Monday, January 27th, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., for a commemorative reception at the National Liberty Museum, featuring its “Forbidden Art” exhibit of artwork created in Auschwitz; a musical performance by young winners of our annual Mordechai Anielewicz Creative Arts Competition; and a viewing of the broadcast from earlier that day of the historic remembrance event at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial — an international gathering that will include some of our very own local survivors who, in defiance of their age, are making the long trip to Poland and onto the world stage in a plea to learn and remember the lessons of the Holocaust.
